In honor of Father’s Day, I challenge you to consider God’s powerful promises.
King David, a godly leader and father, penned an blessing and a challenge for all men in the Psalms.
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. (Psalm 1:1-2 ESV)
Blessings. As our family prepares to celebrate Father’s Day this month, I’m grateful to the Lord for blessing our family with fathers who are strong, godly leaders in our homes. My husband, son, and son-in-law exemplify this blessed man in Psalm 1. Even though none of them claim perfection, I believe that they all desire to walk in integrity and righteousness.
Promises. The Lord made another promise to David’s son, Solomon—another godly leader and father, recorded in 1 Kings 9:4-5.
[If] you walk before me faithfully with integrity of heart and uprightness . . . and do all I command and observe my decrees and laws, I will establish your royal throne over Israel forever . . . (1 Kings 9:4-5 NIV).
King David and his son, Solomon, left legacies of integrity and righteousness.
Legacies. Even if the fathers in your family do not walk with integrity, you can still receive God’s blessings in your life. You can choose to follow the Lord faithfully and establish your own legacy of faith. And you can offer a prayer of hope for your family. In Luke 1:37, we find this promise: “Nothing, you see, is impossible with God” (Luke 1:37 The Message).
How are you celebrating Father’s Day this year?
I heard your interview on Faith Radio this afternoon and I love everything you said!! I can’t wait to read your book “Words That Change Everything”. God bless all that you do.
